Pay by scroll.

No account, no card, no fees. Everything on this page costs a little scroll, and the coins move when you pay.

Start spending

One coin. Eighteen. All yours.

Minted when you arrived. Nothing was downloaded to make it, and nothing will be. Every flick pays one out. Scroll back and they fold up again. The page keeps exact change.

No sign up.

Your trackpad already works. So do a mouse wheel, the space bar and a thumb. Scroll hard and the loop keeps spinning after you stop.

Heads, then tails.

Each coin flips as the page passes it. Scroll fast and they go together. Scroll slowly and you can hear each one land. You can't, there is no audio. You will anyway.

18coins, minted on arrival
1draw call for all of them

Keep the change.

Every coin comes back and lands in the stack. The only thing spent here was scroll, and you had plenty.

Spend it somewhere else Back to the top

How it's minted

One coin is a lathe: a flat face, a rounded rim and the other face, drawn as a 2D profile and revolved 96 times. All eighteen are one instanced mesh, so the whole cast is one draw call, plus one more for its shadow. Heads and tails are the same geometry; the shader picks the colour from which way the face pointed before the coin was placed.

// heads or tails: the normal before instancing moved it
vFace = objectNormal.y;
float heads = smoothstep(-0.25, 0.25, vFace);
diffuseColor.rgb *= mix(uTails, uHeads, heads);

The material is satin plastic with a clearcoat and a little sheen. It is lit by a small studio built at load: a dim dome and five softboxes, blurred into an environment map, so the glints that slide across a face as it turns are the softboxes, reflected. An area light and a falloff toward it in the shader put a gradient across each face, because a flat face under a distant light is one flat colour. One key light casts the soft shadows coins lay on each other, and on the table under the grid and the floor under the stack, which are invisible except where a shadow lands.

Each section is a formation: a stack bent along a curve, a loop, a grid, a tower. The scroll position picks a formation and a place inside it, and every coin chases its own target through a spring that is slightly under-damped. Scroll fast and the coins overshoot and settle; scroll back and they unwind the same way.

// one axis of one coin: a spring toward where the scroll puts it
v += (k * (target - x) - c * v) * dt;
x += v * dt;

The section colours are CSS, drawn behind a transparent canvas, so they land exactly on their hex values and the words stay sharp. The coins use Khronos PBR Neutral tone mapping, which was made for product renders: base colours survive and only the highlights roll off. There is no bloom, because product photography does not glow. Grain and dither are added in the coin shader.

With reduced motion on, nothing idles or springs. The coins still take their places for each section, one frame per scroll.
